Our latest in-shop project is a real classic piano. The Steinway Model A. This piano was built in 1893 and needs a little work. It is a client-owned piano and she is looking forward to getting her piano back in a playable condition. We are breaking it down and getting ready to order the parts and we'll keep you posted as go through the project.
Sam pulled the plate and we found what is fairly common on pianos this age....mold an mildew on the pinblock. The good news is the pinblock appears to be in good condition.
Sam has the plate out and the soundboard sanded and most of it repaired. The plate has been re-lacquered and the most of the lettering painted. A Steinway plate has LOTS of lettering - takes a long time as it is all hand-painted.
